Why We Like Telluride

Why We Like Telluride

The snow is here! Just like our other Colorado destinations, Telluride vacation rentals are an obvious winter ski location. Readers of Condé Nast Travelex rate Telluride as the number one ski destination in North America. Right now, you’ll find almost two feet of fresh powder waiting for you just off your Telluride villa rental steps. Skiers and boarders alike will find uncrowded slopes, no lift lines and ski-in/out experiences to meet your needs. While snow can be found in many places, the top of Revelation Lift offers a view that will take your breath away. Views of the San Juans and the valley below offer guests fantastic conditions for everyone seeking powder to back country.

Take a break from the slopes and seek a snowshoeing experience, fat bike ride, Nordic ski trip, winter fly fishing, helicopter/cat skiing, ice climbing, sleigh ride or sledding right off the steps of your Telluride vacation rental. Telluride sets the bar for skiing and winter get-a-ways.

Snow or no, Telluride is a fantastic destination for warm weather activities, too. Many visit our Telluride vacation rentals for the fresh powder but end up coming back to their Telluride villa to enjoy the summer weather.  Kids tend to love tubing down the river through town; hikers and cyclists find many picturesque vistas to take in; galleries and shopping call those seeking to experience Telluride culture. No matter when you visit, you will find gorgeous blue skies and clear air filling your lungs while you enjoy all the luxuries of your Telluride villa rental. Campers and hikers will find crystal clear rivers, green landscapes, majestic mountains and fresh air. The mountains might call you for a horseback ride or 4x4 off-roading. Those more adventurous may enjoy various river sports (canoeing, kayaking, white water rafting, or leisurely float) or rock climbing adventure.

Our favorite trails are the Bear Creek, Bridal Veil and Jud Wiebe Trails. Bear Creek is fantastic for novice hikers while Bridal Veil and Jud Wiebe more steep and require more experience. Bear Creek is a steady climb to Bear Creek Falls and eventually connects to the Bridal Veil Basin. Bridal Veil Falls are the tallest free-falling waterfall throughout the state. The Jud Wiebe can be access from multiple places in town  and offers fantastic views of open meadows, aspen trees and a view that spans from the Telluride village all the way to Bridal Veil Falls and the valley floor.

Step out of your Telluride villa rental and take a drive along the San Juan Skyway. This historic byway loops through eleven towns and two national forests. While the drive from tip to tail is estimated to be about five or six hours, plan a full day to take advantage of the amazing scenery. The San Juan Skyway is the perfect route to get to Mesa Verde National Park, Anasazi Heritage Center and the Ridgeway Railroad Museum. One note – keep an eye on your gas gauge and check road conditions during the winter and rainy season.

History buffs will enjoy taking a detour from their Telluride villa and getting familiar with the Telluride Historical Museum. The museum walks our Telluride vacation rental guests through Telluride’s past – from gold mines all the way through development of the world class Telluride Ski Resort. This is a perfect stop before heading to the resort in Mountain Village. Mountain Village is nestled up in the top of the San Juans and is home to a dynamic shopping and restaurant scene. Our favorite activity in Mountain Village is a ride on the Gondola. The gondola whisks our guests between Mountain Village and Telluride – you’ll be at 10,500 feet and able to view the most spectacular views of the entire area.
