As the British Virgin Islands' largest and most connected island, Tortola is where most stays in the BVI begin, and often where the best sailing does too.
Road Town anchors the island's civic and ferry life, while Beef Island's airport and West End's marine routes make Tortola the natural entry point for the wider BVI. From there, the island opens up: the north shore delivers some of the region's best villa-and-beach settings, and the surrounding waters put nearby islands like Virgin Gorda and Jost Van Dyke within easy reach by boat. Roads are steep and winding, so a short distance on the map can still mean a longer transfer than expected. Exact beach access, vehicle needs, staffing, and boat arrangements vary by villa.
